Belly Dancing Hafla!!
Last Wednesday night I got to go to my first Belly Dancing Hafla! A Hafla is when a whole bunch of dancers get together to eat, dance and teach eachother new things. In this case it was belly dancer's from Concord, Salisbury and some from Charlotte. There was a live drummer circle and music there. We also all danced for eachother and watched a couple of really cool performances (one girl belly danced to a Motley Crue song). My mentor, Ms. Denise, was very excited for me to come. It was a lot of fun and I got to learn a whole bunch of new moves and different ways to use music to compliment your dance. I really look foward to going to next months also!

About the lessons.....
So i have been taking belly dancing lessons since the beginning of March now and i absolutely love it! I really didn't know anything about it and it is a lot more complicated than what you would think. It is all about isolating certain parts of the body and putting the movements together in a dance. We use everything from zils, hip scarfs (with and without coins), scarfs, veils, butterfly wings and accent jewlery. My teacher, Ms. Denise Bradford, is very experienced and is very good at explaining ways to help remember and master certain movements. She doesn't believe that you should look like everyone else when you belly dance because everyone adds their own style:-) I really enjoy my weekly classes (on Tuesday nights) and i plan to continue them even after the graduation project is over.
